One day before the holidays a student came up to me and asked me if we could get involved in a project she did with her mother every year. This girl and her mother usually donated goods and spent time with women at, Noel House, a shelter in Seattle. We decided to find a way to incorporate this student’s idea into a larger scheme without taking all of the students to Noel House. We decided to bake pies for the women at Noel House and that one girl and her mother would go over and drop them off on behalf of all of us. It turned out to be a great bonding activity for the whole advisory and the parents who joined in had tons of fun too. We all learned some cooking skills which is nice when we don’t have home economics class anymore. We ended up making peach, apple, mixed berry, pumpkin and more. We know the women at Noel House really appreciated it because of the stories we heard from our friend who suggested it. This also setup up our advisory for two years of service around helping homeless people.
